Jazz: The Evolution of America's Classical Music
For all of the music that the United States has produced, perhaps none is as singularly American as jazz. Both complex and listenable, jazz's history is an extensive and fascinating story that mirrors the history of our country itself.
Patrick and Hot Takes Trio trace the history of the music through seven distinct styles and eras: ragtime, dixieland, big band, bebop, hard bop/soul jazz, free jazz, and post-bop/third stream.
Beyond featuring a piece of music from each of those eras, Patrick also discusses the historical circumstances that brought about each era. Brief profiles of key artists are explored as well. This program is available with a trio or a quartet, and also can be presented with an optional powerpoint presentation.
